Hey guys! I just graduated from Vandy so I can't use their gym anymore, and I am moving in August. I know some gyms have "start up fees" that make a short-term membership not worth it. Does anyone know of a gym (preferably near West End/Green Hills/etc) where you can get a one-month subscription without breaking the bank?

You can "start" a membership at the YMCA Green Hills and cancel it after a month, with no added fee. What you pay is based off your income, so bring a pay stub. You're looking at $30-40...

Many of Metro's community centers have full fitness centers, complete with cardio equipment, weights, etc. There are two payment options-- "pay as you go" for $3/day, or a monthly membership for $30. Here is the list of community center locations:

Nashville.gov - Parks and Recreation - Community Centers (scroll down to the bottom)

Now, the facilities vary GREATLY at the different community centers. I have only ever been to East. East is phenomenal-- as nice or nicer than most privately owned gyms. I love it and visited all the time when I was closer to that end of town. Coleman is supposed to be very nice, too. Definitely call any other centers before visiting to find out what they offer.

Another option-- Centennial Sportsplex near Centennial park is even larger and may be more conveniently located for you. It is a bit pricier than the community centers, though. They also offer pay as you go day passes for their fitness center:

Nashville.gov - Parks and Recreation, Centennial Sportsplex - Fitness Center

They have a membership program as well:
