We are looking on moving to these areas in Tennessee and would like to hear from people who live in those areas or have been to those areas.

Are they safe places to live? Are there things to do? I think they are all fairly close to Nashville (less than 1 hr drive).

Were just looking for a sense of what its like and also any job opportunities.

Well, Columbia is about an hours drive, give or take a little, and if the traffic isn't too bad. Mt. Pleasant would probably be a little over an hour, and Hohenwald is probably closer to an hour and a half.

Columbia is a small town, but big enough that there are job opportunities there, or in nearby Spring Hill (home of the Saturn Division of GM), or further north in Williamson County. I think of Mt. Pleasant more as a communty than a town (I'm not sure whether it's incorporated as a town or not; if it is, it's a small one). Hohenwald is a small town. I'm not sure what industries are there. At one time it kind of billed itself as the flea market capital of the region. It sounds like one of the communities around Columbia (within Maury County) would suit your needs better than anything else.

Merriwether Lewis (of Lewis and Clark fame) is buried in Hohenwald.

All I know about Hohenwald is what I learn at the Middle Tennessee Plant Swap which is held there every spring and fall.
Middle TN Plant Swap
It's at Buffalo Canoing on the Buffalo River.

And the Elephant Sanctuary is there.

Really!! Yet another reason for me to come! Their flatboat was built not far from me, on the Monongahela River in Elizabeth PA, so essentially, that is where they began their 'Voyage of Discovery'. Ship building was a major industry for Elizabeth PA during the 1700's and early 1800's.

blessings, Shen

Columbia/Spring Hill area will have more to do and better job opportunites than most. Have all the major chains you would expect as well as a hospital and reasonably priced real estate. The farther North you go (Nashville) the more expensive the housing. Mt. Pleasant is a small community located in Maury Co. approx. 10 min from Columbia to the W. Not much there at all but a cute place. Hohenwald is approx. 30 min from Columbia also to the W. Most of that community would come to Columbia to go to hospital or shop etc.... Would be glad to answer any questions.

I have lived here most of my life and am very involved in the community!!
