This bummed me out when I heard it might close as I hadn't been there yet. I guess that's why it closed . . . . I didn't eat enough milkshakes since I moved here.

Here is the article about it staying open:

Last-ditch rent deal keeps Elliston Place Soda Shop open | The Tennessean | tennessean.com

VOWING to keep a local Nashville institution in business, I have vowed to get there before the end of the summer (which might be November . . ).

Has anyone been there lately? What's the best thing on the menu?
(woops, here I go with another FOOD post . . . sorry . . )

You and I are cut from the same cloth...always thinking about food.

I went to Elliston Place about 18 months ago for breakfast. I will say their breakfast is really fantastic. It's typical diner fare, nothing you really can't get at a Waffle House, but they nail it. The last time I went there for dinner I got a patty melt, fries and a shake. (Probably about 4,000 calories). I was disappointed, but the shake was good.

I know this sounds bad, but I wasn't really heartbroken about the place closing. Obviously its an institution, but I've been there probably 6 times and only had good service once. Most of the meals have been forgettable. The ambiance is great, obviously...that's why you go...but the food...eh, not so much. I think Rotier's pretty well beats it every day as far as food goes. Still, I didn't want it to close...but I wasn't wringing my hands over it either. Now if Rotier's announced that...I'd be crushed.

I share this exact same sentiment. Elliston Place is a local institution, but the food really isn't that special. I wasn't surprised at all when the story came out that they were closing. The only thing I would miss are the shakes.

And DEFINITELY agree on Rotier's. If I'm in the area, Elliston Place doesn't cross my mind....it's definitely Rotier's. Best hole-in-the-wall burger joint in town, AINEC.

So glad to hear they are not closing. I haven't been by the soda shop in such a long time. We were frequent visitors back when we were in school in Nashville. Good memories are stored in our long term from this place.
