My daughter plans on attending Vol State this fall. I am currently attempting to find a place for her to stay. Did your daughter have a good experience at Vol State last year and did she end up getting an apt at Silverwood apt. If so, how did she like it there?
Any advice you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks ...

I'm not sure Silverwood would be the best/safest place for your daughter. Village Green is a little more expensive, but worth it as far as feeling safer. I have lived in Gallatin all my life and so have my parents, grandparents, etc. I'm about as Gallatin as you can get if you need any more info!

I live two minutes from Vol State and think it's a great school in a great area. I graduated from the University of Kentucky, but I've taken classes at Vol State and I think the level of instruction there is comparable to UK.

You might want to take a look at the Gallatin News-Examiner and see if there are any townhouses for rent. I lived in apartments and townhouses when I was in college and I found townhouses to be much nicer and no more expensive. Also, Hendersonville is very close to Vol State, so I think any apartments/townhomes in Hendersonville would work well for a Vol State student.

One last thing, tell your daughter to check out the website ratemyprofessors.com before deciding what classes and professors to take at Vol State. The information there is very accurate, IMO. Having a good professor teach a class you're taking is extremely important.

Default Our experience

My daughter went to Volunteer State on a scholarship 2007, she was told it was a full ride, no expenses except books, she turned down offers from in state schools here in Fl. Once in TN we had a horrid time finding a apt. then we find out that her Pell grant was being used for tuition, nearly $10,000 for out of state at a community college. She found the only apt she was qualified to rent and got one roommate, who didn't pay one nickel for rent, cable, electric. Roommate left after one month, then another girl stepped in, same problem, no one would pay their 1/2 of the expenses. Daughter is out nearly $8,000 for the one year.

She rented from Fox Den apts. that was a whole other story, of which I don't think I can go into on this thread, watch where you rent and what is said by people at the school.
