Do you know his name, middle initials are good, names of any relatives any other details??
You need to check out the Newspapers for the time, they should be on microfiche in the local library, if your not local to the area, you might find someone to look it up for you. Something like that would be noteworthy enough to be in the newspaper.

Check out the Tennessee Library and Archives website: Tennessee Department of State: Tennessee State Library and Archives

I would also call the Nashville Main Library if you're in town and arrange for a visit to view microfiche and the like. Some of it may actually be online now.
