Hey!
My fiance and I are planning on moving to Nashville in May 2012. We're coming from Austin (originally DC Metro area). I LOVE that Austin feels like a community, small local businesses are supported, tons of fun things to do, I feels safe walking around alone as a mid 20s female, etc.
Ideally, we'd like to rent anything other than an apartment (preferably with outside space close by so for our dog) but if it's a great apartment it's worth it. We're paying $750 now and would like to keep it under $900.

I've been told that East Nashville is the place for us. typing in "east" on craigslist isn't getting me very far though, can you please give me some info on the different neighborhoods, and which you would recommend?

I'll also probably be transferring to the new nordstrom at the mall at green hills, how far away is that from the east side?

Thanks so much

It's not a bad drive to Green Hills.

Lockeland Springs, East End, Eastwood are some of the neighborhoods.

Some popular neighborhoods for young people:

East Nashville - lots of cool shops/restaurants and a healthy mix of housing options (historic homes, new condos, apartments, etc)

Germantown/Salemtown - I live here and love it! A lot of loft apartments and a lot of new condo construction.

Hillsboro Village/Belmont - probably the most expensive but a very happening place...lots of college kids.

12 South - mostly homes for rent

The Gulch - a little more urban maybe not a lot of dog space but a very cool neighborhood.

Midtown/West End - a very busy area with lots of traffic but quick access to all parts of Nashville

Besides downtown, is there another neighborhood that is pretty dense with housing/restuarants/entertainment? Gulch seems like it would fit and maybe Germantown?

There are many areas. Nashville is a pleasant mix of all age groups and lifestyles. I would suggest staying out of the generic suburbs. Nashville is bustling with a vibrant midtown and downtown. Don't lock yourself in to your specific age group however. With a plethora of music , arts, entertainment, university, and other choices in town, age groups mix well here.

I moderate the Nashville Forum on Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowed You will find an amazing amount of information on that site.
