I just purchased a deal on Groupon for the Millennium Maxwell House Hotel. How far is it from the area with all of the ****** Tonks??? I will be in the area Oct 23-Nov 7th. Does anyone know of any good music happenings during that time. Please give me names of best ****** tonks to stop in, good food spots (no chains/love mom&pop places), or any festivals that will be happening other than Halloween themed. The official website is not much help! Calling all locals!!!

The hotel is about 2.5 miles and 5-10 minutes from the entertainment districts (Lower Broad honkytonks and 2nd Avenue clubs).

Not walking distance (wouldn't consider that if it was -- for a variety of reasons).

The hotel is nice enough itself (unsure about the rooms, as I've obviously never stayed there -- just eaten there)...but located in an area that is questionable at best at night. As much as I dislike cab rides, it would probably be easiest and best for you to take one.

As a local, I never really go to the honkytonks...but I would think Tootsie's (purple building just off of 5th and Broad -- hard to miss) would be a must. The district is compact enough where you should be able to visit several places without any problems. You might find the best thing to do is just walk the streets and pick the place that seems most inviting or has the best music blaring out the door. As it gets closer to the time of your visit, you might want to check out and see if any individual bars/clubs have bands playing that you are interested in.

Doing a quick search, I found GAC-TV's write up of the local honkytonks.

News : Features : Nashville Guide: Top 10 Honky Tonks and Dive Bars : Great American Country

Most of them are within about a block of each other on Broadway...and the Wildhorse (which usually hosts larger shows) is a very short walk away on 2nd. Not sure if Lonnie's Western Room in Printer's Alley is worth it or not (again, never been there)...but Printer's Alley can be sort of a dark, seedy place at night. Or at least it used to be.

I'll get back to you on the restaurants...that will take a bit more time. If you're on Broad and like barbecue, Jack's is great. Rippy's isn't bad, either. Both of those are in the midst of the entertainment district.

What type of places do you prefer? Type? Price range? Atmosphere? There's a lot to choose from.

Not sure about the hotel, it's in an area called Metro Center north of downtown. You will need to get a cab but it's not too far. Definitly check out Roberts Western World (especially if the Brazilabilies are playing). Other places to check out - City House, a upscale establishment in Germantown that is incredible...also Margot Cafe and Bar in East Nashville Five Points area. As far as meat and there's Arnolds, Monells, Marche (not a meat and three bug incredible brunch). Hillboro Village has lots of cool safeties and shops, The Gulch has some lively nightlife. Anyway enjoy your trip.

I've never heard of the hotel.

We have a lot of out of town guests and we always have a good time on Lower Broad. Robert's Western World is the best honkytonk. A lot of locals avoid that area, but they are missing out...it's fun!

Fun restaurants: Marche, Cafe Margot, Mambu.

Have a good time!

it is where maxwell house coffee was first served (although I think this is a different location from the original maxwell house downtown)

You'll need a cab.

It is in an office park type area, but you do have to go through a slightly sketchy neighborhood btwn it and lower broadway.

Germantown and East Nashville are definitely good places to get local eats. OP, if you are going to be here for a week, then you should definitely make a stop in both of those places. Also in those neighborhoods are Monell's and Germantown Cafe (both in Germantown) and Marche, Rumours East, and a host of other cool local spots in East Nashville. Hillsboro Village/Vandy/Midtown/West End are also great spots to explore if you have some extra time. Check out Centennial Park if you are in the area.

"Maxwell House Hotel" was the orginal name, and as septimus said, it's where they originally served Maxwell House Coffee. The original hotel was built shortly before the Civil War, but burned in 1961 (it was at the corner of 4th and Church, where the gold glass Third National Bank building...now Sun Trust? now sits).

I'm glad to see people have suggestions on the actual honkytonks to visit...because honestly, I don't have a clue about them (I've been to the Wildhorse...not sure if I'd call it a true "honkytonk" though).

Yeah, the new Millennium Maxwell House has little to do with the original. It's an OK hotel. Large, not really luxurious, not in a great area but a short drive from downtown.

As others have said, you'll want to drive downtown, park somewhere and just walk along Broadway/Second Avenue. There's a lot going on, even in the middle of a weekend day. As for honkytonks, Tootsie's gets all the publicity, but my friends and I prefer The Stage.

Once you are downtown, there are some free buses called the Music City Circuit that run from the riverfront to the Gulch and all around downtown. Look for the signs shown on this link and hop aboard the lime green bus!

Welcome to the Nashville MTA!

I have stayed at the Millennium Maxwell House twice. It is OK. Desk service was good. Rooms were big enough and clean. But they were not well equipped by today's standards. They have a small coffee maker, but no microwave or refridgerator. Not a very good deal if you are paying full price, but since you got a deal on Groupon you should cetainly get your money's worth. And since you will be out and about most of the time anyway, the microwave and fridge probably don't matter to you. Have a great time!
