Is it worth the money? My husband doesn't think so since he says our house is too new...it is 6 years old. I think it needs it because 1) I don't know who lived here before and if they had pets and 2) we do have pets. Our filter gets super dirty within 2 weeks of replacing it! We replace it monthly but it probably needs it every 2 weeks, that can get expensive.

If it is worth it, any suggestions on who to use in the Smyrna area?

Thanks!

Yeah, I wondered the same thing. It has been recommended for our house . . . . but it's $700. We have a REALLY small house and the heat/air ducts are pretty uncomplicated. Seems like a lot of money. We might have to replace one or both systems in the next year and one of our heat/cool guys said to have it done then and they will probably give us a bit of a discount since they are out here anyway.

Have also seen Nightline reports where they set up cameras and the cleaner just goes in the basement (this was Chicago or something) and just makes a lot of vacuuming noise and sits there for an hour and then comes up and says it's done.

Let me know how it goes and if you notice a difference. We DO get dust but it doesn't seem like an abnormal amount and I change the filter every month and it doesn't seem overly dusty. And if you find a good company to work with in Smyrna. I am up in Nashville and also would like the name of a reputable company.

If I get a chance I'll check Angie's List and report back.

We had Mr. B's come out. It had NO EFFECT whatsoever on the dust in our house. That comes from having less-than-airtight doors, a leaky chimney flue, and a big dog. I also didn't like the fact that they had to cut a hole in our main branch air duct to access the ducts with their equipment.

I mean, the guys pulled some interesting stuff out of our 30-year-old vents, but like I said the dust was still a problem even immediately after I paid them $500.

The best thing they did was clean out our dryer vent hose, which is very long and can be a big fire hazard.

Our dust level isn't too bad, not as bad as you would think with 4 cats in the house. So maybe for us, it isn't worth it.

But what could cause our filters to get so dirty so fast? The dust on my furniture is minimal and I hate dusting...lol.

Have you had your system checked to make sure it's working properly? I change mine monthly because it sure does make your HVAC work harder to have them dirty.

If you have more hardwood or laminate floors rather than carpet, filters can get dirty quicker because carpet traps fibers and dirt longer. Ick, I know, but true.

You could always vacuum the filter and return cover every two weeks in between changing the filters.

We got a new unit in January so it better be working properly after all we went through...but the filters were getting dirty with the old unit too, thus the reason I was thinking it was the duct work. And our house is 90% carpet, tile in kitchen and bathrooms.

Any other ideas?

I did it all myself....bought a brush like attachemnt, used my shop vac and my "snake", and cleaened the first few feet of all my ducts. Only thing? Didn't pull much out, there was little to no dust/debris in any of them.

I might try that myself, just to see. Our old house filter was barely dirty after 3 months so I am not used to changing after a month and seeing it basically black (which starts after 2 weeks).
