I know someone who lives in Nashville and I feel like all his e-mails are often negative and about crime. Various crime sites show violent crime high in Nashville and surrounding areas. Is this true? Do you feel safe where you live, would you recommend it or do you think it's best to stay in to be safe?

We live in Smyrna, which is about 30 minutes southeast from Nashville off i-24 and I feel very safe here. Yes there is crime here but I do feel safe.

Alot of it can be attributed to domestic violence, drug prohibition, and a lax punshiment-serving system.

I've only felt unsafe in Nashville a handful of times and have lived here for 30+ years. Those rare occasions were due to lack of common sense on my part. This is not a place where trouble finds you...unless you're living in a very rough area to begin with. I don't know where your friend lives or what statistics he/she is using...but realistically crime is not a major concern in most areas of the city.

Have always felt very safe. You have to use common sense of course, but I never have had the creepy feeling I used to have daily when I lived in Memphis.

Nashville is pretty safe in comparison to similar metro areas. Anyone who believes it to be exceptionally dangerous is exaggerating or naive.

I live in Edgefield in East Nashville...about 1 mile from downtown and only a few blocks from the Cayce Homes. I feel pretty safe. I usually have my guard up if I'm out in my neighborhood at night...but otherwise, I feel safe.

I have been to parts of other cities that I definitely did not feel safe...but those kinds of areas are few and far between for me in Nashville.

I do not feel safe at all but that has everything to do with where I live, and the increase in crime in the past few years. Most of Nashville is great though.

It's all relative.

Different people may have a completely different perspective on how safe a particular area is. There are definitely some areas of town I would consider unsafe...but there are also plenty of areas that I think are just fine (especially during daylight) that other people on here would shy away from. At the same time, there might be some areas I feel uncomfortable/unsafe in that others would consider fine (probably because they are more familiar with said area).

So to answer your question: yes, I feel safe...where I am. I feel safe most of the places I go. I try not to go to the places that I consider unsafe.
