It's gonna be hot in August. Well, it's hot NOW . . but August will be hot, too. Kids are pretty resilient and with email and Skype he will still be able to talk to his friends back home, until school starts and he makes new ones.

When I was in 1st grade, we moved in March, just around my birthday. I survived! Moving with school starting up is good although DO check to see just when it does start . . could be very early August!

In Williamson County, the start date is Aug. 10.

Franklin Special School District is Aug. 9.

Starting school will make the adjustment a lot easier for the kids. They'll find friends quickly.

I have one that found friends quickly and one that did not. If our neighborhood has kids the same age as the kid who has not found friends yet, we don't know about them. Or they all go to private school or something. Peers on that kid's sports team are all at other schools, private, public or homeschooled. School did not make plugging in easier. The middle school draws kids from a much wider geographical area than the high school does, and most of the kids from this middle school feed to a different high school than the high school where we are zoned. The feeder schools aren't "pure" where the entire school moves to the same middle or high school.

The other kid found a large number of same-age kids with similar interests in the neighborhood and at school.

(When you are house hunting, be sure to find out where the schools draw kids from and how the address you're considering feeds to the next school. Is the neighborhood you're considering an odd one where you are in a small percentage of families who feed to a different middle or high school from most of the student population?)
