A very well-written article, and it made me hungry to spend a few days exploring Nashville's restaurants. Again. However, I have to admit that I'm more interested in some hot chicken from one of those cinder block buildings than chocolate covered avocados from Las Paletas (although I still want to eat there).

Has anyone here tried Pharmacy Burger Parlor and Beer Garden? That does sound good.

Anyway, here's the article:

The NY Times obsession with Nashville (more specifically East Nashville) is becoming sort of creepy and reaching stalker-like status.

I think it's time we filed a restraining order.

It's because we're so "foreign" and "exotic" to those city folk.

I do think the constant reference to hipsters is just to reassure Northeasterners that they'll survive a visit here and that we don't all look like the cast of Hee Haw.

To answer the OP's question. I love the Pharmacy Burger. However its not for everyone, it gets a lot of mixed reviews.

I absolutely love the burgers, but I go for the atmosphere and the beer. I think everyone should go to have their own opinion of it, but it's not going to be for everyone. If you do go, go early. There isn't any place to really park and it does get busy in the evenings and on weekends.

And also worth noting, Mas Tacos also mentioned in the article is superb too. It's directly across the street from the Pharmacy and worth it's own trip for a couple taco's and elote.

While not intentional, the NYT article is insulting to the core. Whether the writer is a hipster herself, or a hipster wannabe, she just doesn't get it. From what you read, you might assume that the food scene in Nashville was rather bland before the hipsters arrived...that they had the creativity to take our boring culinary staples, and put a cool, hip spin on them. What novelty!

But part of me is torn. I want people to think Nashville is cool. I want people to think Nashville is unique. But I don't want people to think Nashville is cool and unique because we have a bunch of damn hipsters that someone from the Times decided to glorify. And with this sudden and strange Nashville curiosity that the Times has, I worry that we might start to pass the realm of cool and interesting and enter the realm of overrated and oversold. Yeah, who knew a bunch of drunken toothless hicks were so cool? Oh wait, they're not. It's the hipsters.

What part of town is that? I may be heading that way in a few weeks.

I like the Pharmacy...but like dustin said...it's crazy busy. We ate there several times when it first opened. Don't ever go at a "prime" time...it's nuts. The last few times we've tried to go, we just went somewhere else. I'm not standing in line for an hour for a burger...no matter how good it is. The burgers are awesome...but some people don't like the bun. It's made by Provence (so it's a good quality)...but it's almost white and kind of doughy. I have no problem with it...but some do. It's on the corner of West Eastland and McFerrin in East Nashville. If you take Ellington Parkway (north) and exit on Cleveland turn right and left at the first light...it's on your right.
