You can find out a lot, like demographic info and how close it is to Franklin etc., by Googling each town.

Brentwood is very nice. It is an affluent town between Franklin and Nashville. With about 37,000 people, it is about 80% residential and has low property taxes. It has about 600 acres of parks in just 42 square miles of city. It has 2 public high schools that excel in academics and athletics. In fact, Brentwood High's test scores are the highest in the state.

It's a mostly white, highly educated community. Some of the common stats:

Median household income: $114,000
Avg per-capita income: $56,000
Median home price is right at $400,000
69% of households are married

Neither town is nicer. Both are amazing, although Brentwood has a reputation of being more exclusive. "Better" will depend on your definition.

I urge you to use Google to search this stuff. I tried to post a link to Google Maps showing the Landings, but it won't let me do it here.

The Landings are about 2 miles from the biggest mall in the state and one of the best retail areas in Middle TN.

You could walk to Target and Barnes and Noble from there, but it is over a BIG hill and along a VERY busy road.

Middle Tennessee is NOT known for being walkable at all.

What about bicycles? where can you bicycle? My husband and I were down there looking around in the Franklin area. We both like to take long bike rides... are there any roads with shoulders and/or bike paths?

Coming from the fantastic cycling culture of NorCal where I rode hours solo, in TN I am scared to ride alone. I have driven over to ride on the Natchez Trace but it can be isolated.

MOAB bike shop in Franklin has been very helpful. And there are a number of cycling clubs in the area.

Brentwood has an incredible system of paved bike trails that go for miles:

I really like MOAB and road cycling (not for commuting) is very good and there are several groups. Riding by yourself can be isolating though and it can be a little discomforting riding by yourself in rural parts (fine in a group).

I take my kids regularly to ride the trail system in Brentwood. There are enough trails that we can ride for a while. (usually 10 miles or so)

Can anyone chime in on the fitness scene in Franklin? What are some of the gyms that you would recommend?

There are Crossfit facilities in Nasvhille, Franklin, and Murfreesboro. What type of gym workouts or fitness interests are you looking for?
