My husband and I recently moved to the Knoxville/Seymour area and my mother and brother are coming to the Nashville area for 2 days and we are driving over to visit with them. My elderly mother who is 89 wanted to see Charley Pride and Tootsies and that is planned for Saturday along with some shopping or just looking around somewhere there. My brother isn't sure what to do once arriving there Friday afternoon/evening that my mother might enjoy. I've never been to Nashville and really don't know either, but I've been volunteered to investigate something for Friday. Would anyone have some ideas? I thought maybe a reasonable priced dinner show? Is there some place that should not be missed to see? Thanks for any suggestions.

Lora

In which part of town is your hotel located? Are you coming THIS weekend?

I don't think Charley Pride is playing in Nashville this weekend. He's scheduled to play the Opry House on Friday, Dec. 7, though.

That's fun that your mom wants to see Tootsie's. I would take her earlier in the evening. It is a true honky tonk, and while full of tourists, it's a small, loud bar that gets pretty busy late at night.

In my opinion, two of the best shows she might be interested in are the Tribute to the King, and Elvis impersonator show at the Texas Troubador Theater, and the Doyle and Debbie Show Doyle and Debbie.

Of course, it all depends on taste. Even people who don't think they are Elvis fans enjoy the Tribute show. It is very well done.
Tribute to the King

But there are so many choices.

No it's not this weekend we're coming. We're coming the weekend Charley Pride is there on the 7th. Thanks for the tip on and early visit to Tootsie's. I can't imagine my mom in there, but she wants to see it! I will run these shows you suggest past my brother and see what he thinks.

Also, have you or anyone you know ever did the Fontanel Mansion Tour outside of Nashville? This may be something she would like also. It's gotten good reviews on trip adviser.

If your mother wants to visit Fontanel, she might enjoy The Hermitage. At least I always enjoy it. It's the former home of President Andrew Jackson. She might also enjoy visiting Belle Meade Plantation.

You all might also want to check out the A Country Christmas at the Opryland Hotel. It really is a showplace. A Christmas cruise on the General Jackson Showboat might also be fun.

I know JMT mentioned a show at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel but I also like walking around and sitting and people watching there.

Hi John!
thanks for the great suggestions. Actually, Lorrie Morgan's Christmas and dinner show was one of the options my brother was considering in that Country Christmas. I also like the General Jackson Showboat since mom has this thing about these types of cruises. I took her on something similar several years ago and she still talks about it! I like the tour things better than I do the bar hopping scene with music and I think it would be more appropriate for mom also. So thanks for the ideas!

Hi Baretta, we finally made it down here! Staying at Smoky Crossing for now.
I'm sure we'll be doing some of that there. I love people watching! lol! I think their hotel is either there or around there. We opted for a less expensive hotel with my Wyndham Rewards. So we got one night free but will have to drive to wherever they're at and I'm concerned about finding reasonable parking. Any suggestions on that?

I agree! I love just wandering around the Opryland Hotel, maybe having some dessert or something and do some people-watching. It's sooo beautiful with all of the Christmas decorations.

And LLuce, I've only done the General Jackson once, but it was a blast! Sounds like your mother would enjoy it, too.
