Michelle, go to the main Nashville page and click the "Search this forum" tab on the right side. Enter "Antioch" in the search field.

That topic has been covered to death on this page.

The original post is just the city. Here is the metro list: http://os.cqpress.com/citycrime/2011...Lo-Hi_2011.pdf

Its a very large area. I mean probably the biggest in Nashville. There are good and bad sides to it. However a lot of crime does happen in the city. Its not like you will ever have to worry about safety, rather you might get your car broken into if you live in a section 8 apartment, assuming you leave valuables in plain sight inside. I am renting in a "rough area" of Antioch, by Nolensville road. Im actually on the Nashville/Antioch border. It should be noted that no part of Nolensville road touches Antioch. Also note that Antioch is the most diverse area in Nashville so some traditional, conservative folks might think of hispanic communities as "ghetto". It should also be noted that Antioch is quickly becoming an African American community. If you look at census maps, Antioch has the largest gain in AA population out of anywhere in all of Nashville. The blacks moving in seem to be mostly middle class, law abiding citizens.

As it stands these are the demographics of Antioch (2010):
47.7% white
35.4% Black
4.0% Asian
17.6% Hispanic or Latino of any race

Now most people will be shocked to see that Antioch is under 20% latino. You will hear all kinds of crazy arguments like most mexicans are illegal so they are not counted in the census. Obviously a load of crap. People also associate the bad parts of South Nashville, and the latino dominated parts of South Nashville with Antioch. (These being Nolensville road, Haywood Lane, Thompson Lane, Glenrose Ave, Harding Pike) But none of these areas are actually in Antioch! So in retrospect, Antioch isn't as bad as people say. Most people don't even know what constitutes Antioch! It is THE fastest growing place in Nashville nearly doubling its population in the last 10 years. Plus, the majority of Antioch is a quiet, middle class suburb in which you see people of all colors who are law abiding, hard working citizens. Its experiencing the largest growth in Davidson county so a lot of suburban cookie cutters are being built and filled. The majority of Antioch neighborhoods is something like 30% black, 38% white, 22% latino. You do have some black neighborhoods (52%) in South Antioch next to La vergne, but coincidentally, these neighborhoods are newer and nicer than the rest of Antioch, or even anywhere in all of South Nashville!

(My neighborhood is in West Antioch-its called whittemore valley, next to Nolensville road, and its 40% white, 32% black, 20% latino, most conservative Nashvillians would assume its a predominantly latino area)

Provided below is a census map of Nashville.

Thanks - you make a lot of great points. I live in Antioch and I agree. It's affordable and for the most part, safe. Most folks are working middle class - we can't all afford to live in Bellevue or Brentwood.

Nashville city accounts for a much higher % of the population in our metro than DC, LA, and St. Louis.
