My family is looking for a FAMILY FRIENDLY area of Nashville. A place where there are lots of young children and GREAT schools. We are open to both private and public education. We are also looking for an area that is affordable (we don't want to spend more than $200K for housing). We have heard good things about the Mt. Juliet area. But also would like to know of other cities or subdivisions. We don't want to commute more than 45 minutes to downtown Nashville. We would love some feedback.

What part of Florida are you coming from? I doubt an average commute from anywhere in metro Nashville to downtown would be more than 45 minutes. I live in Hermitage and commute to Franklin each day for work around 4pm which is near rush hour and it takes me about 20 - 30 minutes. Never waited longer than 35 minutes in traffic in my 3 years living here and that was from a bad accident the first year I was here.

If you want a good school situation in a family-friendly area that doesn't take forever to get downtown while still getting into a decent house for under $200k... yeah, Mt. Juliet is a good place to start looking. But you can also try looking to the north (Hendersonville and the Sumner County side of Goodlettsville) and southeast (Rutherford County/Smyrna), plenty of nice neighborhoods in those places that aren't super-expensive.

You can also find a small house (1300 - 1600 sq ft) in Franklin for about that amount. Fieldstone Farms and Franklin Green have houses just under and over the $200,000 mark. Schools are good. Don't see anything listed right now. Not a lot of people shopping for houses over Christmas I guess. Commute depends on the time of day but I'd say 30 minutes on average into Nashville.

As Country Girl said, Franklin has very little on the market in that price right now. And even houses that size are selling for more like $215K or more. I agree with Exlslander, My Juliet, Hendersonville and Smyrna would be good places to look. Murfreesboro is a bit far to commute to Nashville though plenty of folks do. You can look at GreatSchools - Public and Private School Ratings, Reviews and Parent Community for school ratings in the area. You can see elementary, middle and high schools on that web site. Bellevue in Nashville might have a some options as well. There are other houses in Davidson County that would fall in that price. You would want to review the school list to help you define areas.

Hendersonville would be an easy commute to Downtown as well. Plus, the schools are very good.
