My wife and I are seriously looking to relocate to Nashville from the Washington metro area. I currently play trumpet in 4 different 18-22 piece dance/jazz bands with books that cover everything from Miller, Dorsey, James, Prado to Basie, Buddy Rich, Kenton, Big Phat Band etc. I'd like to find out if there are groups in the area that are either performing groups or just simply rehearsal bands. I'll probably also check out joining the local community bands to meet people and learn more about the amateur music scene, but any info you could provide would be much appreciated.

These guys are the BEST. A lot of session musicians are really into jazz and play with them. They play Monday nights at the Commodore so I would suggest going to see them and then asking about what is available for a jazz musician of your current level. Am sure they'd have ideas . . .
