Over 1400 turn out to hear about the new Stewarts Creek High

Will take enrollment from Blackman (Murf.), Smyrna, even as far away as Lavergne

This will be the biggest and best public high school in the mid-South (Sorry, Brentwood & Ravenwood)

I had no idea that Rutherford County had such big high schools. Does LaVergne really have 3000 students and Stewarts Creek is going to be even bigger than that? I'll be honest, I'm not a huge fan of mega high schools. That was one of the main things that kept us from moving to TX this past summer. I don't want my kids graduating with 800+ kids in their grade.
But if the new school does well academically, that would be great.

LaVergne has about 2200 kids. Blackman right now is the biggest by enrollment at approx. 2500

Square footage-wise Stew Creek will swamp those. I heard it will have over 400,000sf of classroom space but the initial enrollment will only be 1400 to 1600 (?) due to a couple of years of students granted exemptions to stay at their current school due to activities they are already tied to. After that ends, the enrollment should be over 2,000. Right now LaVergne, Smyrna, Siegal, Riverdale are all probably in the 2100-2200 range with Oakland around 1900-2000.

The first graduating class or two at Stew Creek might have 300 or 350?

It will be both big and really nice ^ ^ ^

That's what I was thinking. It's hard to find accurate numbers for all the schools, but most of what I have found suggests McGavock is still the largest. TSSAA quotes their enrollment at 2,800. US News at around 2,400.

Also...according to most sources, Riverdale is still the biggest in Rutherford.

Not that any of this is a contest. It might cost more money, but I think a lot of these schools would be better off if they were capped around 1,500.

It sounds like the school will have something for everyone, and my friends who went to high school in Plano (each grade close to 1k kids) loved it, but it sounds too big to me. I'd much prefer my kids to be a big fish in a small pond than a small fish in a big pond.

Those are old outdated number from TSSAA. They have new ones out.

Smyrna High School 1998
.
Riverdale High School 2028
.
Germantown High School (Memphis) 2038
.
Whitehaven High School (Memphis) 2076
.
LaVergne High School 2133
.
Jefferson Co. High School 2147
.
McGavock High School 2159
.
Cookeville High School 2163
.
Science Hill High School 2207
.
White Station High School (Memphis) 2263
.
Arlington High School (Memphis) 2315
.
Blackman High School 2381

As Mt. Juliet continues to grow, don't be shocked if MJHS joins the mega-enrollment group.

In any case, SCHS is really nice - check it out...

Interesting. I'm guessing McGavock did some rezoning...which is probably a good thing in the end (plus I think Cane Ridge opening affected the numbers for both Antioch and McGavock).
