Ok some of the directions that I've read so far are just confusing.

As I see it, there are two common sense options.

I-65 S to I-24 E - Google Maps

or

I-65 S to I-24 E - Google Maps <---- This is the route I'd take

The difference between these two routes is barely 3 miles and Briley saves the trouble of dealing with any potential problems in the downtown area.

Now if Nashville wanted to be like a say, Atlanta, 155 would be all freeway and connect all the way back to 65, and changed to I-665 or something, but I know they don't want that.

I wonder if a traditional inner loop inside of 840 but outside of the downtown loop would decrease truck traffic through the city?

It is too bad I-440 only works from I-40 west to 65 & 24. Some trucks do use it to avoid the low clerance downtown. in an ideal world, it would continue thru the airport & end somewhere on 40 East.

There may be a few trucks that use 155 since they built the flyovers on the west side to get to I-24, I-65 north. then on down back to I-40.

Yep. Most beltway loops are a bit longer than 440, and most major cities with them have their major airport near on the beltway loop (Cincinnati, Atlanta, LA, Indy, Chicago, probably more).

Anybody know when the 440 east construction will be completed?

lol right, nashvols? And the crazy part is that they don't look to be fixing the stretch that's really jacked up - the stretch of pavement that connect 440 to 24 and the flyover ramp to 24/40 - both have major potholes and road degradation.

It's one of the busiest interstate stretches in town...and the majority of it is 2 lanes per side (not counting merge/exit lanes). What they really need to do is 3 lane it throughout with a 4th lane that merges/exits. At the 65 interchange, they really can't add a third lane to the main bridges. But if 2 lanes exit, then two lanes enter at that interchange, that should minimize the bottleneck.

The thing is, they'll probably have to take out most of, if not all of the median. I think it has outgrown its days as a "parkway."

Exactly. And they still have the "Four-Forty Parkway" signs up, I believe.

Crazy how bad it backs up from 65 to 24 every day without fail, construction or no construction.
