My sister wants to go to this but I don't really want to spend $40 for beer I don't really enjoy that much. I saw on the Historic Franklin website that the event is Open to the Public but you can't taste beer without a ticket. Does that mean I could go for free and just listen to music and maybe find some Corned Beef on a Stick? If we go early, are there a lot of . . . well marinated . . . folks out and about? Anyone been who is not a drinker? It's this weekend . . . . Thanks!

It is definitely a party crowd, as in people dressed in green/leprechaun motif. I guess it's really an upscale pub crawl. Yes, you can walk through but to taste you need the ticket. The beer is really the focus here. Some stores will be open. There aren't any craft tents etc.; probably be some food trucks, but I would attend other festivals if you aren't into trying new brews.

Earlier would probably be better to avoid those who have gotten their money's worth, but it's still an evening event.

I haven't been to the Franklin event, but I have marinated at several nearby beerfests (organizer, volunteer, attendee). Most beer events have specials for Designated Drivers (free soda / non-alcoholic bevs) - you may want to check that out. A $40 per ticket admission means the attendees will be mostly upscale.
