I am wanting to relocate to northern TN sometime in the next 6 months or so. I am looking for the stereo-typical "country" town, I don't want shopping malls and subdivisions. Within a 30 minute drive to clinics or hospitals as I work in the healthcare field. I am also a single parent so something safe with a good school is a must but also affordable. Any input is appreciated as I have not the slightest clue where to start looking.

How small do you consider small?

Were you looking for "in town" or out in the country?

Also, people don't talk about north or south TN. It's either West, Middle or East. Do you have any preference?

Tiptonville TN is very small. It's also affordable. Or a dump depending on your point of view. I know someone from out of state that found a place there. When he went to Tiptonville to look at it he thought the town was too small. Some people love it however.

If you really want small try:

Yorkville
Bogota
Ridgely
Tiptonville
Trimble

I'm pretty sure all those have a population of under 5,000 and meet all your other requirements.

True story; I stayed at the Extended Stay Hotel in Cool Springs last week and I was bitten on the back of the neck by a Wolf spider (I think, I found one on the wall above the bed the next day and another one in the bathroom) while I slept. It left a large itchy knot at the base of my hairline. Now, I don't have migrain headaches any more. However, I still don't feel that I'm qualified to operate a nuclear reactor without some assistance.

Anyhow, the reason I was in Nashville was for a job interview (got it) and to find a house (found it). After many a mile driven and several houses viewed, I settled on Spring Hill. I was able to get more house per dollar and I'm still only 30 minutes from everything Nashville has to offer.

Haha so I'll stay away from the Extended Stay hotel!
I did look at Spring Hill, it seems like a nice town and still within reasonable driving to Nashville, where all the jobs seem to be. I have looked at Franklin also. Any ideas on that one?
My next main concern is finding a job. Any guidance on how to do that from Indiana? Yes I've applied to several online but I feel like employers might shy away from an applicant so far away.

Either get a local address or explain in your cover letter that you are in the process of relocating (on your own dime). I get resumes all the time from people who I think are just trying to meet their quota for unemployment because there is no explanation as to "why Nashville". Why would someone from Vermont just up and move to Nashville? Tell me something, even if the reason is you like country music (which is a reason I've been told numerous times).

You are close enough that you can drive down for an interview.
