There was an actual moonshine still and it wasn't even well hidden. Then there was a bungalow being guarded by a watch pig -- actually a mean-looking boar with mean-looking tusks on the porch. A big city boy doesn't see too much of this at home. There was this small town called Golden Pond whose population was apparently 3. And all three of them were on a bench whittling away with pocket knives. There was ice cold bathing in one of those big bodies of water -- not sure if it was the Tennessee River or the lake on the other side. It also provided drinking water, with halazone tablets added, of course.

It was Nov.-Dec. 1966. Operation Eagle Prey II, a detachment of the 5th Special Forces as aggressors vs. a group from the 101st Airborne as the conventional troops.

Could've and maybe should've posted it to Kentucky but Nashville is the closest city in this forum. Based on a rough visual inspection, looks like about 2/3 of Ft. Campbell KY lies in TN and we spent most of our weekend passes in Clarksville and to a much lesser extent in HopTown (Hopkinsville) KY.
