One of my son's teachers was commuting from Antioch because her apartment was $700/mo. She was driving 1hr each way, never seeing her kids and spending a ton on gas.

She finally moved to Franklin. Found a 2 bd apt for $1k/mo and came out ahead. Her kids are in a better school, she has a 5 minute commute and spends barely anything on gas.

Living close to work is worth it for the quality of life issues.

Mount Juliet Apartments | Aventura at Providence in Mount Juliet, TN 37122 This would be worth looking at. Convenient location and worth checking out IMO.

Hermitage isn't a terrible commute at the beginning, but the merge with I-24 past the airport is. The alternate route is not very feasible (Lebanon Pk/Elm Hill Pk)...however, Hermitage is on a commuter rail line (unlike the other places mentioned), so it does have a unique alternative.

Lebanon Road is very feasible into downtown from the east side if you can take 40 to Briley and get off at Lebanon Road. Almost zero traffic at that point.

When you say suburban, you need to be clear about what exactly you mean: Nashville is Davidson County, and though there are sections that have different names (Bellview, Green Hills, etc) they are still in Davidson County. If schools are a consideration, you should be aware of that.

If you mean outside of Davidson county, I can tell you that after 3+ years of commuting from Brentwood to Vanderbilt, my commute is a million times better than someone coming in from the north or the east. The traffic reports for I65S into Nashville, or I24W, or even I40 are ridiculous sometimes! Depending on when I leave home, I can get to work in ~20 minutes and return trip the same, depending on when I leave. There are also multiple road options in case the interstate has a major accident or something.
