I 2nd this. I hear more "burrah" than "o". Then again, at the same time, some people drop off the "Murph-ree" and call it "burrow" or "the burrow"

Although Pronunciation of murfreesboro - how to pronounce murfreesboro correctly. pronounces it with the "o". But what do they know.

Kinda of the same thing up in Louisville, Ky. Someone I know who's from there pronounced it "lou-a-vull", and the vull was pronounced kind of quickly.

What about Maravull (Maryville) Cookvull (Cookeville) and Murray Conty (Maury County)?

Yes, this is what I was told. And Nash-vull. Shoot, seeing Cookeville written, I thought it was Cookie-ville!

Me and my ilk (from East Tennessee) pronounce it Murphry's Burrah.

And it's Murruvull and Cookvull.


Here in Memphis, so many of the natives say Maimphuh. And West Memphis is Wuh Maimphuh. I'm not quite that Southern, I don't think. It's Mi-emphus to me.
