We are packing clothing but I also need to know what kind of clothing we will need to take with us as most of our belongings, including clothing will be in storage at least two months.

So basically I will be there from end of Feb through April, possibly May, before purchasing new home and having all my belongings.

What selection of clothing should I bring in my immediate suitcases?

Thanks all. You have all been so incredibly helpful.

Still searching for two bedroom furnished apartment for short term rent in good area (I have two dogs that I will walk and need to feel safe out at night). If anyone knows or has I go (not rents of $2500 a month+).

Thanks again.

Oh yeah, remind me what I need for emergency travel kit. I'm driving down from NY.

You will need all types of clothes for Feb-May. You will get everything from freezing temps up to warm shorts and t shirt weather. $2500/mo is way, way too much for rent in TN. $1000 should be plenty.

$1,000 is on the low end for renting a 2 BR in a good area. It exists, but most newer places will be above $1,000...more like $1,200-1,500. $2,500 is not as rare as you would think for some of the nicer, newer complexes.

OP -- I forget, where are you planning to look for houses/work? And you might find apartment complexes aren't too keen on short term leases. That's definitely something to call about before you even visit or tour them.

Luckily hub is retired and I own a small internet based business, so work is not an issue with traveling to and from.

Been looking for apartments for short term and having a rough time, especially since I'm not there. I called a few. Some haven't returned calls, some I had to fill out my requirements and they called and asked me what I wanted (isn't that why I had to fill out their info page?). Some gave me quotes of $2500-$3300 a month.

I found one that would have been great but they had one week booked smack in the middle of March. BOO!

We are looking for a home in either Franklin, Hendersonville, or Gallatin. I would love an apartment in Hendersonville. Hopefully I can find one soon.

Ok, so basically I need to pack a little bit of everything, minus the bikini I'm so bad with packing. I always pack too much for a vacation and really need to slim it down as I won't have a ton of room in my car with the two dog crates.

Remember to bring your dogs' rabies certificate & vet records with you.

I agree with a variety of clothing. Some years it starts to warm up at the end of March. Each year is different.

I sent you a private message.

Have you looked in the Sanders Ferry/Walton Ferry peninsula area? There is an abundance of rentals there: condos/townhomes and apartments. Not saying you'll find a steal there, but I can say from personal experience that we were able to get a short term lease in an apartment complex in that area several years back. I'll dm you the details.

I concur that you'll need to bring both winter and spring attire. You can probably get by without a big overcoat/parka and just have a jacket, but layer up underneath. Long pants/jeans will be fine through late April/early May, but much later and you'll be wanting shorts. If you're wanting to pack the lightest way possible: pack the essentials for February and buy a bare minimum for essential outfits for warmer weather once you get down here.

You could try VRBO too. Maybe find an owner that would agree to a long term rental.

I concur with the other posts about needing a little bit of everything...It might start out cold in the mornings (~25-35F) but by mid/late afternoon, you could be sweating if you overdress. Definitely plan on dressing in layers--sometimes our kids wear short sleeve shirts under sweatshirts or sweaters and wear a light jacket for school--they just peel off the layers as the day gets warmer. By April, we are often wearing shorts, especially coming from a northern climate, where 60-65F seems balmy after the cold winter.

As for finding housing, you might actually look at extended stay places--if you don't know how long you'll be needing to rent, and hope to buy relatively soon, they might be cheaper than the hassle of setting up utilities, etc. for an apartment. Not sure about the pets, but perhaps you could call around and see if any accept them.

As for travel emergencies, I'm a huge fan of packing lots of high-protein snacks (like granola bars), maybe a gallon of water, an extra blanket, flashlight, jumper cables, kitty litter or sand (if traveling in the winter where there could be ice) and perhaps a AAA membership. You should't run into too much trouble in the south, as long as there is no ice/snow.

Best of luck.

With what you can spend check out the newer complexes in the Streets of Indian Lake area. There are several complexes within walking distance of a beautiful Greenway with walking trails.

Look at Aventura at Indian Lake they are in your price range and look extremely nice. Everything you may need to get to, ie banking, shopping, dentist, doctors, is in the immediate area. I am not sure if they do short term but they may be able to direct you to some that do.

There are also some extended stay places on Main Street in Hendersonville, kinda like a hotel with a small kitchen area. I can't remember the name of the one I am thinking of but I am sure if you google search extended stay in Hendersonville it will pop up.

Good luck, it is a beautiful area.
