Looking to moving AWAY from California. I am looking for a completely new environment, so tired of this liberal state it annoys me. But I also want to finish my Nursing degree. I googled Vanderbilt University and I kinda liked what I saw online atleast. If I move to Tennessee I won't be going alone, my bff will be coming with me. We're both single and in our early 20's so we have nothing holding us back. Any suggestions as to where we should look into to move? We both like both the city & the country side & would'nt mind commuting to and from work/school (no more than 30 minutes). Price range for 2 bedrooms no more than 1300. Were open to suggestions

I'm moving this from the TN forum to the Nashville forum since Vanderbilt is located in N-ville. There are a couple of CA transplants that frequent this board so there are some kindred spirits. There are also plenty of previous threads on this so be sure to check those out. Good luck.

You should also check out Belmont University for nursing.

And, on the other side of the coin....moved from SF to Nashville in 2012. Aside from buying a house, worst decision ever. I'd give the house back to return to NorCal.

There are some Californians who should never live anywhere else.

But I lived in CA for 15 years and don't miss LIVING there one bit.

To the OP - have you ever visited Nashville? $1300 will probably get you a 2 bedroom in a complex in Franklin (25 min). Not sure if there's anything in that price range near Vanderbilt. Would be a lot of competition for it if there was.

Nashville is booming right now. An exciting place to live for anyone of any political persuasion. There is so much opportunity here and we're just hitting our stride.

MTSU also has a nursing program and you can find very reasonable housing in Murfreesboro.

Have you ever visited Tennessee or Nashville?

Because it's probably the polar-opposite of California in every way. Some ways good, some ways maybe not so much.

Just saying if you like the beach or mild winters or easy international flights to Asia, you might be a tad disappointed by Nashville.

Also, while Tennessee is certainly a conservative state, Nashville is a liberal enclave within it. You'll still see plenty of Obama stickers here, for instance.

(Of course, you'll also see "America: Love It or Leave It" bumper stickers too, like one I saw yesterday.)

We've got all kinds here.

I'd just encourage an extended visit before making the move.
