You will want to stay reasonably close to the downtown area near Broadway or the area called SoBro (south of Broad). That probably where you'll spend most of your time.

There are a few hotels that are reasonable in the area (but still just a bit pricey). You could also stay a little further from downtown along West End Avenue.

Grand Ole Opry | The Show That Made Country Music Famous

Rascal Flats & Ralph Stanley & others at the Grand Ole Opry. Shows in the Opry house. So many hotels in the opryland area & near the airport.

you will have to look at the Ryman or the Bridgestone arena. (Predators should be playing a lot of hockey after the Olympics are over).

There's a "battle of the bands" at the Hard Rock Cafe.

Downtown/2nd Ave/Broadway is the primary entertainment district. Definitely want to check this area out and I agree staying in this area would be the best launching point for your Nashville stay.

I'd urge you to look for restaurants/bars in the Gulch area as well. You're going to find actual Nashvillians there hanging out. Yazoo Brewery and Jackalope Brewery are in this area as well and worth a visit. East Nashville is another "actual Nashvillians" area that offers plenty of restaurants, bars and live entertainment. It's an eclectic/artsy area of town. Well worth a visit as well. Finally, Hillsboro Village near Vanderbilt might be worth a look. Lots of college age to young professionals in this area.
