I will be transferring to a new job in La Vergne in mid-march. Need recommendations as to where to live. There will be 3 of us, myself, wife and 19 year old. I'd like to be within 10 miles of work. Any other info about area would be appreciated. Thanks

La Vergne is where the bargains are right now. You can buy there for much less than other areas, so you might want to start there and save yourself a commute. You can buy an enormous brand new home there for much less than other areas and pay much lower taxes. Just don't overbuy for your needs.

We live on the La Vergne-Smyrna line. We are less than five minutes from the Smyrna Target. It's a quiet neighborhood--nothing fancy but mostly well kept and family-oriented. We're zoned for Cedar Grove Elementary, which is a good school.

We used to live in the Cane Ridge area of Davidson County but wanted more affordable housing and better schools. Our new house just happened to fall in the La Vergne ZIP code, but we do everything in Smyrna. A big draw for us was the proximity to the hubby's job (less than two miles).

I haven't been over to Lake Forest. I can't comment about that area.

The Lake Forest area is fairly removed from the main LaVergne/Smyrna retail district just off I24 where wyldedixie seems to be located. It's a 3500+ development on Murfreesboro Rd. very close to Davidson County/Antioch and since the police opened a substation news about crime in the area seems to have diminished somewhat. However, given the socioeconomic makeup of many of the residents and the high number of rental units it is going to continue to be a higher crime area that you might find in other neighborhoods. Sorry if that sounds elitist but it is what it is.

With a 19 year old I'm going to ASSume you aren't concerned about the schools. There is a wide range of housing options open to you - are you comfortable sharing some of your desires in a neighborhood and budget so that we could be of better assistance? For example, I have a Murfreesboro address but am just 11.5 miles from LaVergne - takes me about 15 minutes to get from my door to my Honda mechanic just off the interstate at the Lavergne exit. You don't have to live right in LaVergne to be close to the office.

You assume correctly, schools are not a concern. I'd prefer a 3 bedroom, 2 bath, garage, small yard. $150,000 or so for the home. Work site is off interstate 24 exit 62 actually has a La Vergne address.
Thanks

You'll be off Old Hickory Blvd. which is another couple of miles from the LaVergne exit. Small yard = newer construction in most areas of Smyrna/LaVergne. Inventory at that price point is pretty tight right now but I'm guess a good realtor can lead you in the right direction. For resale value I would look in Smyrna first - anywhere with easy/quick access to I24/Almaville or Sam Ridley exits - before LaVergne, but you will get more for your money there. I wouldn't recommend anything in Lake Forest or immediately near LaVergne High School. You could look in Davidson County in the Cane Ridge area but that would also put your further away from shopping.

Cane Ridge is a great area, but most homes are pricier than $150k. We sold ours for just over $200k. DH could get to work in La Vergne in 15 minutes though.

Good advice! I remember you chimed in several years ago when we first relocated here to TN. I remember you specifically giving me the exact advice about the Lavergne/Lake Forest area...not to do it! I really valued it as you were correct (still correct) about resale value. We ended buying in Smyrna. To the OP.....Smyrna sells fast! We had three house sold on my block in three months time. PS: And, the police force is absolutely great!! They actually work hard.
