The best I ever had was at Pucketts in Leipers fork. Yum.

Best fast food fried chicken is Church's.

alleycat, I grew up with fried chicken being made in an iron skillet and in an electric skillet because there were so many of us on Sundays that chicken would have taken too long with just the skillet cooking alone. I always liked the electric skillet chicken; it was so evenly cooked.

+1 on Puckett's.

Don't think I've tried Bishop's, but I guess I should.

Didn't like Gus's at all. Don't get the type. Though the service was pleasant.

I like to make oven-fried chicken breast at home. Soak in buttermilk for 30 minutes. Toss in flour/salt/pepper mix, bake in the oven for 30-40 minutes. Tasty and much healthier (I believe) than any deep-fried chicken.

Thanks all! Wish there was a closer Church's . . . Never had any from Kroger but I think we'll start out there and work our way out and up!

I remember going to Kentucky Fried Chicken about once every 2 years, when the urge would hit, and then regretting it . . . But the mashed potatoes came out of this dispenser that looked like soft serve ice cream and that intrigued me!

Thanks, as always . . . . .

Any of the Hot Chicken joints around town typically serve a "plain" that is better than any fast food chicken I've had. Not that there's anything wrong with Church's, Popeye's, etc...but if I'm wanting exceptional fried chicken, I usually go to the specialists.

Monell's usually does a great fried chicken. So too does Arnold's and Dandgure's on Lafayette (which, as an aside, I think is better than Arnold's, personally).

Gus's taste like frozen chicken that they through in the oven to serve.

I'm a fan of the fried chicken at Rotiers when I'm dying for food from a greasy spoon. Pair it with their hash brown casserole and fried pickle spears with remoulade. Always a foodgasm for me.

Gus's was okay when I tried it. I expected more based on how people rave the one in Memphis.

From what I was told by a friend in Memphis, native Memphians do not eat Gus's, its more of a tourist attraction, or new commers to Memphis.

Monell's, IMHO, makes the best fried chicken I've ever had.
