My husband sprays down our yard. I'll ask him for the recipe. Parvo is a concern here too.

We have a 6 foot wooden privacy fence. I don't trust the Invisible Fence either. Do you think the pugs can squeeze thru the iron fencing?

Have a few more questions (about dogs)
Do you use flea application? Is it a must and if so what brand do you use?
Do you get your yards sprayed?
I notice that most of the properties have the 4' iron fencing. Do you think they can hold in two pugs about 22-25 lbs? I don't trust an invisible fence for my dogs
Also, what are the necessary shots/vaccinations a dog needs in Tennessee? My vets goes overboard with vaccinations. I'm old school and besides, my dogs always become ill from the shots so I try to limit them. I have an appointment to bring dogs in Tuesday for their vaccinations since we temporarily are moving into Aventura at Indian Lakes until we find the right home (can you tell my pups are my babies?)
You need to ask your new vet the shot info. I know rabies is required, and so is bordatella for boarding. But I have never heard of a vet going overboard with shots.

We always get a professional flea and tick treatment in our yard because 1.3 acres can house a LOT of ticks.

Check the HOA rules about types of fencing allowed. As long as your pugs aren't escape artists, the aluminum (it's painted to look like iron) fencing should work.

Wow, how do they get parvovirus? Just googled that. My little girl had that when we first brought her home. It was stubborn too. Just thought that was from pre-natal (bad breeder).

I don't really put flea &tick applications on unless absolutely necessary as they are sick for two days after application. Been trying to research organic/holistic treatments.

And yes, My vet wants me to give 5 vaccinations a year. Personally I don't see the need. My dogs are home dogs and only let out in the yard to go do their business. The breed does not tolerate hot or cold temps, plus they don't like to be far from a human, thus not wanting to stay outside alone.

....
The dogs themselves are the transmission vector. They can contract it through fecal-oral route transmission. A sick dog poops another dog comes around and starts sniffing--the virus can live in feces for quite sometime. If your dog has Parvo they can still act as a host for up to a month after symptoms go away.

Uneducated breeders are a big part of the problem. The vaccine needs to be timed correctly in order to work. Since the vaccine is of the "attenuated virus" variety (essentially inert virus), it works by binding with immune cells in the blood to form an immunity to the disease so the body can respond to any future exposure...

If the vaccine is administered too early, the antibodies (ingested from the mothers milk) will bind the [attenuated] virus and essentially flush it from the puppy's system thus not allowing the puppy to build the immune response for which the vaccine was initially intended. At this point the dog in vulnerable if it comes in contact with the virus in nature (pet store, sniffing dog poop scenario, w/e).

My dog had Parvo virus the day we brought him home. We knew something was wrong because he had a few seizures. It was so sad to watch. Little Gizmo was in the hospital for over 2 weeks. At one point the doctors told us they weren't sure if he was going to make it. But, the little guy pulled through and he we love him like a child. We try to give him the best life ever (hence why we want to move to TN)

In Sumner County, rabies vaccine is every 3 years. All other shots are optional. I've always used Frontline Plus for my dogs even when I lived in the northeast. I know there are holistic options for fleas & ticks but haven't looked into them. The only other thing is giving Heartworm medicine.
