I saw something asking the same about Donelson and I really can't think of very much "hip" in Donelson to be honest. Also saw a facebook once called "hip Antioch" and don't see much that is "hip" or "trendy" there at all for the last number of years. While crime in that part of town seemed lower after the closing of Hickory Hollow mall, this morning's news report is a sobering reminder that all is still not so cool and groovy there. (As if it was ever the gulch to begin with)

Metro police officer seriously injured in crash - WKRN, Nashville News, Nashville Weather and Sports

3 a.m. - shooting occurred in the 2000 block of Murfreesboro Road, (Smith Springs at Murf. Rd.?) leading to a police chase ...from Murfreesboro Road, the pursuit continued along Rural Hill Road and then to Bell Road...the officer lost control of his car on Bell Road at Mt. View Road and struck a tree on the driver's side of the vehicle... etc.etc.

Actually the shooting occured at Club X, a club that was highly highly discouraged from opening by several in Antioch, including those on Hip Antioch...The people in Antioch did not want this club in this area AT ALL. Its advertised on the radio so people from all over Nashville come to it. Its been open since the fall and tho nothing else has happen there we still would do anything to have it closed...Same thing with Hickory Hollow, just because the things that happen in that mall did not mean the people doing it were from Antioch, it was a reginal mall so people came from all over. The same people, even more live in the same area of the mall, which is now open as Global Mall, and as you said the crime has dropped due to the closing, so therefore it goes to show that people were coming to Hickory Hollow from all over doing there mess cause of all the ghetto mess that was in the mall, that we in Antioch did not want at all because it was not a reflection of our community.
So whats hip about Antioch, we have the Predators building a new practice facility on the same property of Global Mall opening this fall, also a state of the arts library and community center being built next to the Predators facility. Nashville State has a very nice campus located in the old Dillard's building which has recently partnered with MTSU's criminal justice program. We also have top notch Paul Mitchell Beauty located in the crossings area.
Antioch is also home to several new, local resturants including 360 Burger, The Calabash, and The Copper Ponny, all featuring live music and patio seating. We also have Hot Stuff Chicken, the closest to the original Princes Hot Chicken, even better, Fat Boys Barbeque, Ron's Homecooking, Barbeque and Fish, H&T's Homecooking, Big Daddy's, Bones Fish and More, Fish Wings and Things, Bricks Cafe on the far west side of Antioch, Homestyle Bakery, and several more that I can't even think of right now, and of coarse the regular chain resturants. We have Compton's Foodtown, one of the nices groceries stores with and old school feel to it, where they still walk your groceries out to your car.
We have Priest Lake, Smith Springs Recreation area, Anderson Rd. beach. We have Cane Ridge Park which is one of the nicest parks in Davidson County.
We are having our annual Easter Egg Hunt this Saturday which is always a huge event. On the 3rd of July we will be having our 2nd annual Firworks show that brough out thousands last year to the 1st one held in the parking lot of Global Mall. Look forward to a Christmas parade in the near future as well...
We are have the highest population out of all the zip codes in Nashville, and some of the most friendly people, working very hard to make Antioch one of the Hipest areas of Metro Nashville in the next few years. I could go on an on with what makes Antioch Hip. Come check it out sometimes!!!

Thanks Antioch! llfndrsng and Totes, to add to what Antioch said which is on target! Southeast Nashville which Antioch, J. Percy Priest Lake, Cane Ridge, Lenox Village all are located in one of the Hippest areas of our city has friendly neighbors, wonderful family friendly neighborhoods, great amenities which are hidden jewels I might add. To name some in addition to what Antioch has listed, we have the city's only overnight camp...the YMCA Camp Widjiwagan, the beautiful Nashboro Golf Course which has tree lined fairways and a strong golf association membership, The Gran Dale Manor Historic Residence where weddings are held and beautiful black tie events take place, Nashville's only Mountain Bike Trail - hamcreek.com which is on the beautiful J. Percy Priest Lake where you see sailboats and boats and yachts surrounded by great picnic areas and lakeside restaurants - if you don't believe us go to http://www.SoulshineSUP.com as they come to our area to do paddleboarding etc., More restaurants to add to Antioch's list...Razz'z Restaurant, Angelo's Pizza, Sicily Pizza which are quaint small neighborhood owned, Schools to name a few....Ezell Harding Christian, Lighthouse Christian, Intrepid College Prep, Knowledge Academy, Antioch High School IB World School (same as Hillsboro HS in green hills as to having the IB designation now), Cane Ridge High School academies, excellent elementary schools. With the New Predators Rehabilitation and Sports Facility, Nashville State College which now houses 1 floor for Middle Tennessee State University's satellite campus location, we have large employers like HCA Hospital Corporation of America and Asurion, Brand Imaging Group, and more coming! To see the many families and the great friendly area we describe, join us at the 11th Annual Southeast Nashville Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday April 12 at again our area's Metro Nashville Parks Soccer Fields off Donelson Pike and Murfreesboro Road. The only of it's kind in Nashville/Davidson County. NOW THAT's HIP!

Actually not true now that the trails in Percy Warner are open. But you did have the first.

N.Cal Sorry about that. Nashville Parks did add new ones. You are correct, we Antioch/J.Percy Priest Lake/Southeast Nashville had the first and it's Sorba Mid TN » About Us has their events here in our area as well as The Fat Tire Festival and Race. Its refreshing to see that we have great amenities like Percy Warner. How awesome! So HIP!

Nothing against Antioch or any other Nashville neighborhood -- but if you're actually hip, you don't need to talk about it. Hipness has a certain swagger to it. A certain nonchalance. And perhaps most importantly, other people have to think you are cool. Unfortunately, all of the offerings that could make Antioch hip and cool are glossed over with negative press and misconceptions from local residents. But the good news is that other Nashville hoods have overcome the negativity and reinvented themselves as cool. Perhaps Antioch will, too.

It is nice to read about all the offerings Antioch currently has, though.

Thank you llfndrsng for your remarks about areas of Nashville, TN that you obviously don't live in and know little about. I don't think Antioch is Hip - I think it ROCKS as does the entire Southeast Sector of Nashville.

I am continually amazed that people talk negatively about things that they know absolutely nothing about. I won't repeat what Antioch and J.Percy Priest said because they are correct. What I will say is this:

I have never seen more Community Minded individuals in any other area of Nashville. There is not a day that goes by where I don't see people talking about making our area better and better. Whether it's a simple Clean-Up effort, an Art Show or a full blown out Music & Arts Event - we are doing it. The awesomeness of the people that live in our area is mind-blowing. We also have some of the best Council People in Nashville who continue to work for us day in and day out.

Sure we have Crime, but who doesn't? Interestingly enough most of the Crime in our area is from people that live outside the area. Statistics say we have less crime per capita than most other areas in Nashville, so pointing out one that made the news doesn't help your argument at all.

So, when you have the time come out and visit us and maybe you will just change you mind. Our new Library, Community Center and Predators Ice Rinks are all scheduled to open in Mid August and in October we will have our first Music & Arts Festival. We don't want to be the Gulch.

There are all kinds of Facebook groups with "Hip (Insert Community Name Here)" titles. They're just places for people to exchange information about the community, that's all.

Hip is a contraction for Hippy. San Fransico was once populated with hippies. They got stranded out there in the late 60's and had to stay. Now they are old and known as tree huggers. Antioch is not hip. Can you dig it?
