Hello! My husband and I may soon be relocating to Nashville. My husband will work in the 37218 zip code. We don't want to live in Nashville, but somewhere within an 30 minute drive. We are looking for an affordable area that is nice with newer homes that we could get for under $150,000. Also wondering about electric, water, phone, and home and car insurance costs.

Hi. Nashville's "nicest" suburb is Williamson County -- home of the wealthy towns of Franklin and Brentwood.

Both are wealthy cities. Franklin has many new homes being built all the time but I am not sure about your price range, perhaps under 200k. I think in the Old Franklin homes may be cheaper than the Cool Springs area. Homes in Brentwood are more expensive.

The drive is around 20 minutes or less with normal traffic from Franklin to Nashville.

You could try Spring Hill which is near Franklin and on the "up and up."

Let's not get her hopes up. There's no chance of her finding a "nice, newer home" in Spring Hill for under $150K and a commute of under 30 minutes. That slowdown at the 96 exit makes any trip into/out of Nash at standard commute times a long one.

I'm an optimistic person. I like to look at the bright side, I just don't think this scenario is possible. Not for under 150, and not for 30 minutes or less.

Zip code 37128 is really close to what I call "Whites Creek" which is in Davidson County and where the UPS shipping center is located just off Briley Parkway. If you want to be within a 30 minute drive (even in traffic?), stay out of the city, and stay under $150,000 you may need to look in areas like Joelton, Coopertown or Pleasant View. These are going to be pretty rural communities but you can find a nice home there in your price range and be in 37218 quickly. You said you didn't want to be in Nashville but are you looking for a "country" feeling or just don't want to be in the middle of urban downtown?

I agree that it would be next to impossible to find a home in Williamson County, especially newer construction, for under $150,000. The average price home even in Spring Hill has skyrocketed. In addition, you would also be looking at a much longer drive from Franklin and I would guess that Spring Hill would take an hour or more ~ especially in traffic.

Do you have children? Are schools an issue? If not, Davidson County has some nice areas to live in that are affordable and would be within a 30 minute drive, but I wouldn't recommend their schools for families.

Thank you for your response. We have a daughter, but she is only 15 months old. Country is fine we just didn't want to be right in the middle of the city.
