We are thinking about retiring in the Nashville area. Besides Del Webb who is developing in Mt Juliet, are there any other active retirement communities in the Nashville area? I appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

In 2003 Money Magazine named Franklin one of the best places to retire in the US. MSN followed suit last year. Close to Nashville and rural countryside, there's a wide range of housing options. Franklin has fishing, hiking, lots of live music, and 2 local playhouses too! Several upscale senior complexes, retirement and assisted living facilities are also located here. We have trolley transportation, an excellent local hospital, even a free service linking seniors with kids who need extra reading help. A friend was recently telling me about a mentoring program that connects retired professionals with "rookies".

Thanks akm4 for the prompt reply. I have family in Franklin and Nashville and love both areas. However, we are only interested in an active retirement community. Something like a Del Webb. I don't want to ask my family, because we are only in the "thinking" stage. If they even got a whiff that we were considering relocating, they would really put the pressure on to move to Nashville. Do you know of any planned communities that I can research on the web? When I do a web search, the only one that pops up is Del Webb.

Our bichon is almost 3 and brings us such joy. Her picture is in "Highways" magazine this month.

You can check out The Legacy in Springfield they are a communtiy with alot of retirees. They have a golf course, Pool and rec facility also boasting very nice homes. And the cost of living is alot cheaper that most of the other places around Nashville.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

We are in the planning phase of a Active Community in Smyrna Tn. It will be only 60-70 units with a community center, putting greens and walking trails. The land has many mature trees which we plan on keeping with some units having screened sleeping porches. The site is located 2 miles from Stonecrest Medical Center, YMCA, parks, and great restaurants and shopping. Smyrna is between Murfreesboro (college town with lots of arts, music) and Nashville. If you might be interested then I keep you posted on the development as we proceed.
