Hey everyone,

We're closed on our new home and getting ready to move down in 12 short days! I was wondering if you could tell me some nice things to do with my daughter for xmas time since shes been living in a house without any decorations, etc and we won't be there in time to do the full on decorating scheme. I have a few days off before I start my new job and would really love to take her somewhere she could get into the spirit. Shes 9 by the way.

Thanks for any advice! We are very excited (and nervous!) to start our new chapter of life!

Welcome to Nashville!

A good way to begin your holiday is to take in a Grand Ole Opry show at the Ryman. don't worry about the music, in 5 minutes someone else will be on you may like better.

a 9 year old may like Centennial Park & the Parthenon.

Many of the mansions will have a holiday theme tour.

Our friends moved in December. The mom drew a picture of a huge Christmas tree on one of the moving boxes, colored it green and drew ornaments all over it for their decorations for that year. ;P

So you're moving on the 18th? That's about the time my sister moved with two teen daughters. I had keys to their house so I bought a little 3 ft pre lit tree at Target and had it quickly decorated and waiting fo them in their new home. You could always buy a little tree and lights and a box of ornaments, wrap a couple of quick gifts and box it up with an OPEN ME FIRST on the outside. There's something about Christmas lights . . . . they can really warm up even an empty house!

Cheekwood Botanical Gardens has a live reindeer through the end of the month and decorated trees. It's very much worth buying a family membership if you are interested. Very nice for picnics and they always have something fun in the summer:

Home

You'll miss downtown Franklin's "Dickens Christmas" but it's worth going there . . quaint couple of blocks, all decked out for the holiday. There is an old fashioned Toy Store, a fix it yourself frozen yogurt shop, and Meridee's has something called a Campfire Latte that my niece loves! It could probably be done with hot chocolate too. Has mini marshmallows and graham cracker crumbs on top! They have a Christmas tree inside and it's warm and cozy!

Here is a calendar of Christmas events in downtown Franklin:

And here's the toy store:

Also, Sunnyside Lights! The guy at the end of this street does an AMAZING light show in honor of his son who always said "We need more lights Dad!" He collects money for charity (I think it changes every year) but it's just a bucket so it is free . . I always throw in a couple bucks though.

It's off of Hillsboro Road, just a couple miles north of Grassland Market. REALLY worth a drive!

LOTS of wonderfully decorated houses around . . . will see if I can get some addresses for you, but Sunnyside is the best!

PS. Welcome!

It might be worth a drive to walk through the atriums at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel - it is so beautiful with lights and trees!!

I would definitely go to the Opryland Hotel. If you park at the mall you can walk to the hotel (parking at hotel is something like $12).

Parking at the Opryland Hotel is $21 (plus tax) per day and it is NOT pro-rated. So it's $21 for anything up to 24 hours. Rip off, IMHO.
