We will be relocating to Nashville in February. We are coming from the Chicago area and after years of traffic, I do not want to be sitting in traffic everyday to and from work. Will be working near airport. Trying to decide on area to live. We are in our 40's college age kids. Looking for 200-450 range house. Would really like 5 or 10 acres, but afraid that will put us to far out.

Could someone please post the traffice problems facing commuters coming from north, south, east or west, heading to airport area.

Thanks. Maybe this will help us decide where to even start looking.

Don't live anywhere near I-24 SE of town, if you'd be heading towards the airport for work. 24 sucks. Other than that, someone else will need to help with other areas.

I'm thinking maybe Mt. Juliet?

I don't live in Nashville, but I absolutely despise traffic on Hillsboro Pike/21st Ave. S from the 440 exit to Harding Place.

Working in the Airport area I would consider only one place, Mt. Juliet and the outskirts. With your budget you should be able to find a 5-10 acre spread. I live here and I have a couple of ways to get to the airport or into downtown.

As it was stated earlier I would avoid I-24 coming in from the south. Coming from the north on Briley or I-24/I-65 can be just as bad.

We live in Davidson Co about 100 yards from the Wilson Co. line we feel safe and enjoy the area. You will find everything you need here. Getting into Nashville for shows or restaurant’s is easy as long as you can pick the time.

Heading towards the airport / Nashville on I-40 West is always backed up from commuters coming from Lebanon and Mt. Juliet. They did recently widen the highway and build a rail line but not sure if it has eased the congestion on I-40 during rush hour. Since someone mentioned back roads, Mt. Juliet might be your best bet if you want some land and still want to be fairly close to the airport area. To be honest, I think any area of town will be fine when comparing to Chicago traffic. Chicago population = 2.9 million. Nashville population = 545,000. This does not include the greater and surrounding areas, only the metro population.

If you change your mind and decide you don't need that much land, I would recommend considering Hermitage or Donelson.

Default Commute to airport

Proximity to the airport was an important consideration for us when we moved here--my husband travels often for his job. We live in about the furthest point in Lebanon away from the airport (about 27 miles away) and it takes about 30 minutes. Usually he has a Monday morning flight, I-40 does back up some in the morning but it is usually after the airport exit and not really a problem.

We are on 9 acres right in between Lebanon and Murfreesboro so we have easy access to lots of stores and restaurants. Hwy 231 is an easy drive either way. There are several parcels of land out this way including ones with existing houses. There is one house on 8 acres 5 bedroom with a pool I think they are asking $450k, that is available. If you want more info let me know.

That picture of I-65 heading towards Spring Hill and Columbia is the biggest reason I would not recommend those two cities. What a headache!
