Hi I am from Nebraska and coming to Murfreesboro in a few weeks to visit MTSU. I am a 23 year old female and will be traveling by myself. I guess my question would be what are some good restaurants and other things for me to do in Murfreesboro and Nashville preferably for a girl riding solo? I would like to get to know the area a bit since I am considering moving there next fall.

Will you rent a car?

Are you just looking to get a sense of Murfreesboro and Nashville? How long do you think you'll be in Nashville (and Murfreesboro for that matter)? What kind of food do you like or want to try...what kinds of things do you enjoy doing? That might help us steer you in the right directions.

There are some good places to eat on the Square in Murfreesboro. The Square is just down the road from MTSU. I always liked Marina's on the Square for Italian. I know there are others on the forum who have better advice on the Boro than I do and I'll defer to them.

No I will be driving so I have my own car. I will be there from Thursday evening until Sunday so not a whole lot of time. Yes I am looking to get a sense of both areas, so I know that I will end up living in a place I want to be in especially since I will be so far from home. I am up for any food or any adventure, I just would prefer things that a single person can go to where people don't think you are an outcast for being by yourself.

Will you be looking for apartments? We have some single gals that live in the Paddock Club apartments that go to MTSU. They are up here 1 block from the VA hospital. I live there. I enjoy the apartments. Don't know your food genre, but I enjoy Slick Pig for BBQ, Longhorn for Steak and Chuys for Tex Mex. There is plenty of good Bar Food around also. I have ate at Marina's (Italian) and I 2nd DonCorleone's input.

No I don't think I will be looking at apartments just yet because I am sure I will be making more trips the closer next year gets. Thanks for the restaurant suggestions. Any fun activities or must see places that I should check out?

One of the must restaurants to check out is "Cheddars Causal" on Old Fort Parkway close to the I-24.
It is not a student hangout but have really great food at reasonable prices.
Best of luck

In addition to touring the campus, I recommend touring the Stones River Battlefield and Museum.

In my experience one can go anywhere they want and not be considered an "outcast", most everyone else is so involved in their own activity most would not even notice you are by yourself.

Agree about Cheddars. It is usually pretty packed though. However Smyrna just up the road has one also and I have no problem getting seated in there. Good variety menu with big portions at a affordable price. Cheddars is in various regions of the country so you may have already eaten one somewhere along the line.
