Is smoking allowed in all bars and restaurants in Nashville and surrounding cities? What is the policy? We'd like to know before we move there!

Have you done a search on Google? I would bet your answer will be there or you could search for the city hall of Nashville, get a phone number and call them.

I actually don't know the laws but have lived her for 4 years and NEVER been in a restaurant where anyone was smoking . . . But I'm guessing if you ARE a smoker, you will find some bars where it's allowed.

Smoking is banned in all restaurants except places that are 21+.

I've been to some clubs, too. No smoking there either. But am guessing there are some . .

I remember growing up when EVERYONE smoked EVERYWHERE. Even on planes and in hospitals! Seems crazy now . . .

We spent one evening in Nashville last month, downtown where all the bars were, and EVERYONE was smoking, everywhere. The first restaurant we went to (I forget the name) was so full of smoke and smokers we both gagged and had to walk out. We went down to Margaritaville and ate there (not exactly what we wanted - tourist chain food - but we were starving and it was there...), and didn't find any smokers there. Not sure if there was just a no smoking section or if the whole restaurant was no smoking. I didn't ask. But we noticed people smoking in the bars everywhere as we bar hopped all up and down the strip.

We assumed that smoking was ok in bars and restaurants in Tennessee. I guess we were wrong about that (yay). Honestly we don't mind smoking in bars all that much (we're conservative but have some libertarian leanings) - but it was the restaurants that had us worried. It's hard to eat next to smokers. Glad to know that we must have stumbled into a bar that also served food or something. Wish I could remember the name of the place - it was near 5th and Broadway on the north side of the street....

This is one reason I switched to a electronic cigarette, but some states (Missouri) have an irrational fear of water, and have even banned that indoors.

We ate at the new "Acme Feed" a while back and I don't recall anybody smoking. Bailey's near there is kind of smoke smelly but it's 21+ and they do card. Away from that part of downtown, 99% of the rest are strictly non-smoking. It's been that way for years. People said restaurants like Toots would go out of business if they had to go non-smoking. So the manager of the Toots in Smyrna went non-smoking a month before it became law just to see. Guess what? Here it is years later and they stay as busy as ever. Maybe busier.
