Murfreesboro is expected to be home to over 200,000 residents by 2035. What would you like to see occur?

Whole Foods and Trader Joes

Some sort of transit line from Murfreesboro to Nashville would be nice, too. That seems way over due considering the size of Murfreesboro and how many people commute to Nashville every day on I-24.

Thanks for the link Shakeesha, reading the suggestions is entertaining at least, informative at times.

I would like to see Murfreesboro learn to manage its growth, and concentrate on infill development in areas with adequate infrastructure (or areas where infrastructure could easily be added to) rather than continuing to push the borders farther and farther away from the center.

With 200,000 people, Murfreesboro would have a greater city population than present-day Knoxville or Chattanooga....with a small fraction of the urban infrastructure. With Murfreesboro's 2013 estimate at 117,000 people, that would mean at least 83,000 new residents in 22 years. That's not unheard of in terms of percentage growth, but that is very, very high.

I would like to see Murfreesboro:
-concentrate growth and development on existing corridors, and infill development on land between existing neighborhoods
-widen current arterials and connectors when possible, and only add new roads when there is no alternative
-encourage higher density, low to midrise urban development closer to the core area (within the street grid)
-improve sidewalks and signals in the core area, making it more inviting for pedestrians
-develop a commercial strip adjacent to MTSU that is worthy of a university of that size
-work with MTSU to create a student neighborhood atmosphere that encourages as much non-car commuting as possible
-extend the Rover's network and increase frequency
-work with Nashville on creating a commuter rail line to link the cities (and create transit access from the train station to MTSU and other important stops)
-stop expanding south or east of the current limits

I think these two ideas are fantastic!
