With the development ongoing I believe Midtown/Music Row will be the best example of a neighborhood in which people can live without owning a car. Ironically, only the people who can most afford a car will be able to live there.

All the new development in the core will not be just a bunch of new buildings either. We have some great conversions and restorations into boutique hotels planned as well. I particularly love the additions to planned additions to Noel Place and the Utopia Hotel.

Utopia Hotel (4th Avenue N.)

21c Museum Hotel (222 Third Avenue N.)

Noel Place (200 4th Avenue N.)

Addition to the Church Street side

Current Facade facing 4th Avenue

The Fairlane (401 Union St.)

Dave Ramsey's company, Ramsey Solutions, is buying 47 acres in Franklin with plans to spend $58 million on a new corporate headquarters and nearly double its workforce by adding 400 jobs to its current 450.

Here's an interesting article in the New York Times about the $2 billion in construction projects that are reshaping the Nashville skyline. In particular, the Times says there are 17 high-rise buildings worth $1.5 billion going up in the central part of the city. However, not everyone is happy about the looming changes.

I am really excited they are converting some of the older historic buildings. I always thought Union Station was something that set us apart. I literally cried while watching them tear down the Jacksonian while waiting patio tables at Rio Bravo. It's nice to preserve our history. Sadly, it's been lost in many of the gentrified neighborhoods.

This has the potential to be huge. A well-funded developer from Michigan has bought an entire city block (1.6 acres) at the corner of 2nd Ave South and Demonbreun and plans to spend $300 million to develop a luxury hotel, around 170 condos, and fewer than 300 apartments. Unfortunately for those who like old buildings, a small apartment building constructed in 1900 will have to be demolished.

But, there goes probably the last of the somewhat affordable apartments downtown in the Market Street Apts.
