Philadelphia's James Beard Award-winning chef, Michael Solomonov, is opening his first restaurant outside of Philadelphia in East Nashville. Federal Donuts will be located just steps away from Edley’s Bar-B-Que and Butcher & Bee at the intersection of Main Street and South 9th Street. The five Philadelphia locations regularly draw long lines for their inventive doughnuts flavors, fried chicken and coffee.

French energy management and automation conglomerate Schneider Electric has received tax incentives to move its North American headquarters to Williamson County's Two Franklin Park. Currently headquartered in suburban Chicago, Schneider already employs around 1,500 people in the Nashville area. This move will relocate 890 corporate jobs and create 250 new corporate jobs; these 1,140 jobs will have an average salary of $73,000.

Memphis-based Hunter Fan Company has leased 30,000 square feet near the Nashville airport to open a new division, Hunter Industrial. They will hire 41 initially and hope to have 100 employees within 3 years.

Executives at Hunter Fan believe they'll have more success recruiting and retaining skilled workers in Nashville compared to Memphis.

"As we grow, we'll need more R&D engineers and more industrial designers. We'll need creative people in sales and marketing. Those folks are pretty widely available here, as compared to Memphis," said John Bredeson, Hunter Fan Executive Vice President.

Premium outlet mall operator Tanger Outlets is scouting the Nashville region for a potential site for its first project in Middle Tennessee. The Greensboro, N.C.-based operator of high-end outlet malls needs a large tract of land for a collection of shops that could total more than 400,000 square feet.

Williamson County is likely to be atop Tanger Outlets list of possible locations, but high land costs would make that challenging. A good alternate site would be near The Avenue Murfreesboro lifestyle retail center, which is centrally located within Middle Tennessee with easy access.

I'm no commercial real estate expert nor retail expert, but I would think another outdoor mall in the area would not be a wise investment. It probably would do better in Williamson County assuming they attracted the right stores, but I just don't see that model working. Sort of like building a new propeller factory in the jet airplane age. Yeah, there's some demand for it, but not like the good old days.

Here's a bit of info re: the old Wal Mart Neighborhood Market in East Nashville. Most people were hoping for a decent full service grocery store...because Kroger sure isn't stepping up to the plate with the Eastland Kroger. I guess Wal Mart made sure a grocery store wasn't even a possibility for this site.....

I disagree. I think it would be a poor choice to place the mall in Williamson County because:

A. It would potentially cannibalize sales at Cool Springs Galleria
B. It would not make sense when you have other very large retail and commercial projects that appeal to more upscale demographics (i.e. Berry Farms, Ovation, Cool Springs Galleria Expansion, Hill Center Brentwood)
C. Land prices are significantly higher than Rutherford County

It makes sense to place the mall in Murfreesboro because:

A. Murfreesboro lacks upscale retail, and retail in general
B. The outlets will complement and increase traffic at the The Avenues Mall
C. It would force Stones River Mall to step up or face significant losses (this has already happened with the Avenues)
D. It would spur more growth and increase visitors and shopping options for Murfreesboro's trade area
E. Has the better location with I-24, 840, Medical Center Parkway (high visibility), and high traffic counts.
F. Lebanon Premium Outlets is struggling, and not adequate.
