True. Donelson is a very quiet area.

They could hook up with either I-24 or I-65 via Briley Parkway North.

Yes, heed everyone's advice. Suburbs. Franklin isn't bad. Brentwood on the other hand if you catch it at the wrong time of day is an absolute nightmare. I personally would stay away from around the airport. We did not have a pleasant experience and were enticed by the prices of the surrounding hotels.

I 100% agree with this. I would stay in the cluster of hotels across I-40 from the airport, most being on Elm Hill Pike, then take Briley Parkway to 24 North of the city the next morning. You will save a good deal of aggrevation and stress with that plan.

Gas Price alert. Gas prices falling into the $2.29 range in Donelson & falling. Lowest prices appear east side of Nashville! Use GasBuddy to check for updates!

Another good reason to pick there. That's 50-60 cents less than the Brentwood area.

Thanks for all of your help!! I booked at the Holiday Inn, Smyrna. Our main concern was getting over the mountains before dark and not staying directly in the city.

If its a weekday when there is a full rush hour, I would leave Smyrna by 6am or wait til about 9 to leave. I think 24 coming into town is the worst of the rush hour segments.

Agreed. I would go ahead and say 9 should be fine (unless you like getting up early)...you could still make it to Chicago at a reasonable time leaving by 9.

Aside from that, the Smyrna exit (Sam Ridley Pkwy) has plenty of stuff if you need anything for your trip. Grocery stores, drugstores, a Super Target, and a lot of eating options.

It takes me 7 hours to get to Chicago from Hendersonville. You can really go at a good pace in Indiana (I mean doing 75-80, not 110)
