Right now my family and I rent a five bd. three ba. from the college I am attending in NE Georgia for $900 per month, all utilities included. I know that is a steal.

My husband and I have pretty much decided to settle in Nashville for the next few years after my graduation in May. Will we be able to find affordable housing in the vicinity of Meharry Medical College? We do not need three bathrooms again, but three bedrooms is a must. We prefer a house since we have five active children and a friendly cat. We will be homeschooling next school year, so that is a factor we can leave out of the equasion.

Thank you again for any input.
Charlotte.

That area isn't the best part of town (it's not the worst either) so rental rates are probably fairly low around there.

I do not have a problem commuting a short distance, just not an hour each way. MCG in Augusta, Georgia is also in the most questionable part of town. While we do not need something fancy we do need our future dwelling to be a safe one.

Historic Germantown is really close to there which is a better neighborhood but high price appartments. I took my daughter around trick or treating there this year and they even close off the streets on Halloween night for trick or treaters... at least on 5th & 6th Ave N they do.

I tried to take a closer look at the houses around MeHarry when I drove passed it this afternoon (you can see the area from the interstate). I don't think you'd want to live in the area immediately surrounding MeHarry (no offense meant to anyone living there).

You can't get a very good impression from I-40. The area around 40 has become a little rundown, but there are many pockets of good neighborhoods. You certainly want to stay west of DB Todd--or far enough east into Germantown, but there are good deals to be had in the neighborhoods west of Meharry and around TSU. There are two new houses on my block, and active renovations and construction nearby. Just be sure to walk around before getting into anything. We have lived two blocks from Meharry for almost two years now and haven't had any trouble yet--rather everybody has been quite polite.

Default Mls 929085

if you can afford to buy, this house is close to the area you are looking at:

Media Display

It is in foreclosure, and is listed at $76K, but I'm sure you could get it for substantially less.

Thank you. I will look up the different areas on Google Earth, but I know visiting is what we need to do.
