We are thinking of relocating to Murfreesboro from upstate New York for a job opportunity. We've looked at some of the school reports, and are interested in Blackman and Riverdale schools. Can anyone give me any feedback on which is a better school and why? We have children who are active in sports and in technology usage. I would hate to go have them go to a school that wouldn't allow them a chance to make the team. Thanks.

Riverdale probably outperforms Blackman in just about every sport, especially football. At Riverdale, football is probably just as important as academics. Coming from upstate NY you might be surprised at just how big HS football is here.

Both schools are similar in size, with somewhere around 1,700-2,000 students, although both should have some of their overcrowding relieved when Rockvale High opens in a few years.

Riverdale was built in the early 70s, I believe, and Blackman around 2001-2003. Therefore, Blackman has much nicer and new equipment and facilities, although their stuff will be outdated soon, as Rutherford County schools has a 10 year technology plan in which they don't replace equipment, computers in particular, until after 10 years of use.

I'm not going to say which school is better, because I don't know. But Blackman has probably a better academic reputation. I'm not sure it's justified though.
