I can think of several areas that were hit in recent years in Franklin- the apartments near Franklin High School, several homes by Liberty Elementary, and , of course, that house in Leiper's Fork.

I appreciate your intent, I do, but this woman deserves the truth. I totally agree with you, though, that the chances of being hit are very, very small.
Honestly, I'm a bit freaked too. I had my years dealing with earthquakes... now this? Just a few days ago there were two confirmed tornados!
My house looks as if it would blow right over if a tornado hit it. I don't have a clue which bathroom to go to. They are all under the top floor!
Yikes!
Thanks for the honesty, at least I can try to figure out a way to get prepared.

You still would need to go to the lower level, most centralized location of the house. Either the bathroom, or a closet would be even better.

Born and raised in CA, here's why I prefer tornadoes to earthquakes-radar. There's no warning for earthquakes. At least with severe weather we can take precautions!

Can't go to a basement I don't have, and my house is an open floor plan so all the rooms are on outside walls! My brother in Alabama told me to just go back to bed because there's nothing you can do about it; that's what his family does!

People don't understand why I would rather wake up to shovelling snow than dealing with this.

Most tornado paths are rather small.

This is a picture of the aftermath of an F4 in Ohio. 4% of all tornadoes in this area are F4 or F5.

You can see how even if a tornado rips through your neighborhood, some houses can be severely damaged, while others remain almost untouched.

Tornado safety is a serious issue. You should be alert and aware of the weather...but please don't live in constant fear of being hit by one. There are SO many more likely ways to die.

What if you happen to be driving down I-40 and a tractor trailer crosses the median?

What if a meteor falls out of the sky and lands in your bed?

What if a lion escapes from the Nashville Zoo and eats your whole family?

I mean, there are a lot of ways to die...and many of them far more likely than a tornado. Why live in fear? Just be prepared.

Yes I realize that, but I think people are more worried about property damage, even as minor as roof damage from high straight line winds can be a hassle to repair.

Oh, I know. I'm not trying to understate the seriousness of storm damage...just want to lighten the mood a little so people aren't living in fear.
