That's great! I'm surprised we had a higher increase than Austin. That place is booming!

While progress is certainly occurring, I wonder what the ratio of nearly created jobs vs. the amount of new applicants is. If you're creating more jobs, but have a higher percentage of applicants than jobs created, you're still running an effective deficit.

But I"m betting a large majority of those applying are already employed, just looking to move up?

Maybe I have my head in the sand, but I was surprised to see Raleigh on the list...let alone ahead of Nashville and Austin. I need to read more about Raleigh I guess...good for them!

Not surprised about Raleigh. I don't know a ton about it but I compare it to a smaller, lesser version of Silicon Valley on the East Coast, especially with the Research Triangle moniker.

Probably. But that's kind of the point. If a lower level manager moves into a middle manager role then that does two things:

1. He or she is now making more money.
2. Whatever job he or she left is now available for someone to move into from a blue collar job or from an unemployed status.

People are always moving in and out of jobs as better deals develop for them elsewhere. The more jobs available then the more options there are for people and the higher the competition for those employees. Creating a scarcity of employees is the best way to drive wages up.

I agree, but Nashville doesn't pay enough to beat out other peer cities. The wages are on the low end of the scale even though the cost of living (taxes/housing expenses) are increasing exponentially.
