I am currently a graduate student at Pepperdine University in California pursuing my MA in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. Even though my program has an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy, the class requirements necessary for an LPCC are also fulfilled within the program.

I am graduating June 2016 and am hoping to find an internship (MFT-I or PCC-I) in Nashville or western Kentucky and moving there after graduation (I am aware of the pre-grad requirements for each state). However, I have been experiencing difficulty in finding internships online and do not really know where to start.

Currently, I am working at an agency called Interface Children and Family Services as an MFT Trainee. I mostly work with children who have experienced some sort of trauma or family members of children who have experienced trauma. However, I am open to working with mostly any population.

If anyone can help direct me to any websites or resources that can help, or know of anyone hiring MFT-Interns, I would be eternally grateful. Also, if anyone had any vital information about pursuing an internship in either state or requirements, I am open to those as well. Lastly, does anyone know which license is more recognized in each of these states? LMFT or LPCC?

I wanted to start looking early so that I would be able to keep my eye out for opening positions once it comes time for me to begin applying.

Any help is appreciated!

Suggestions off the top of my head:

Call the dept of psychology or social work at some of the universities in Middle Tennessee and Kentucky and ask where their students intern. Call a big clinic (Daystar is one you could begin with) and ask if they supervise interns and ask where the psychologists who work there did their internships. Have Pepperdine connect with Freed Hardeman U or Lipscomb U (all Church of Christ universities) for you and ask those questions.

This is the path I would take.

Dr. John Lowry, the son of the Lipscomb U president, got his undergrad degree at Pepperdine and also did some grad-level work there. I would check with people at your university to see if they will reach out for you. He is a well-connected VP at Lipscomb.
