Hello,

I will be relocating for work to our plant in Smyrna, TN. I was hoping to get insight on where to live. I'm 23 just out if college, engaged. I have an active lifestyle(gym, hiking, backpacking, water sports, fishing). I like to be able to go out to a nightlife but still be able to go home to quiet. I don't like living in a house that's on top of my neighbors, I like some space. I tend to do most of my shopping on the weekends, but like the fact that I have a target/meijer 5-10min away. I would like a place with decent amount of resturants... I don't want rural areas, but I also don't want to be straight downtown. For instances I go downtown Detroit to sporting events/concerts/restaurants but I like to be able to go home after. I live about 20-30 min away. From Downtown Detroit. If anyone could compare cities from Michigan to cities near Nashville/ Smyrna, it would be much appreciated.

I was also looking to know a little bit more about the cities around Nashville/ Smyrna. People type, things to do, worth the price, city amenities, etc. Or any steorotypes of the cities.... Like this pace is a huge college town, this place is only for nightlife, This town is older folks, etc.

Any information would greatly help.

What is your housing budget? That info would help a lot, thanks.

AND feel free to use the "Search This Forum" option (upper right hand corner with all threads closed) as many of your questions about various cities can be found in recent threads . . . type in Smyra, Mt. Juliet, Hendersonville, etc.)

I would like to stay around $1,000-$1,200. For a two bedroom apartment.

I would recommend Smyrna or Murfreesboro.

No Meijer's down here, but we've got Target.

Paddock Club Apartments at 150 West Thompson Lane in Murfreesboro would easily have you in that budget. It is on the North side of town. I think base rent on a 2 bedroom is around 875$ plus they add a charge for basic cable (45$) pest control 4.50$, water 30-40$, Garbage 7.50$ I stayed there about 18 months. Quiet and no crime.

I agree with artemis. Smyrna/Murfreesboro sounds like exactly what you are looking for.

MTSU is located in Murfreesboro (Middle Tennessee State University) but it's not exactly a 'college town' since a lot of the students commute back up to Nashville. Murfreesboro to Nashville is about 35 miles so doable for a concert or something BUT 24 is notoriously bad during commute times (into Nashville in the morning and back to Murfreesboro in the evening).

Because of the way the highways/major roads were built in and out of Nashville, like spokes of a wheel, it's tough to go east or west from Smyrna. Nolensville might eventually be an option in a few years if they make getting there easier. It needs to 'grow up' a bit!
