I think some of the people in this thread are woefully out of touch with housing/apartment costs around the country for any semi-desirable city to live in. Go look at just about any other city forum through this website and you will see this same "rising cost of living" discussion and how it's not as cheap as it used to be.

Nashville is still cheaper than a lot of other good cities that don't offer near the amount of culture/entertainment/job opportunity value that Nashville does.

It always amazes me that people don't explore this option more.

When I lived in Boston I always had roommates and my rent was cheap as a result. It has been 15 years but I was paying less than $500/mo for a decent sized apartment and my own room when the going rate for a not so great 1bed or studio was closer to $1100/mo.

Pretty much. Nashvillians have "it city hubris" these days it seems. Yeah the city is cool and slowly shedding the old stereotype that surrounds it but it isn't special for growing rapidly or being able to tell people it's more expensive than an outsider thinks it is. People might take that the wrong way but basically every nice place is becoming more expensive and while that's good for the country as a whole, it doesn't make Nashville stand out from others that much.
