they're both good areas to me. cheaper side of town and not too far from good shopping locations....and traffic into town isnt a nightmare like the rest.

if i had to think of a con, i would say they are both older neighborhoods (a lot of seniors)...so you wont find too many hipsters out that way ...hmmmm that actually may be a pro, lol

I thought I heard someone say Donelson was now "Hip Donelson" or becoming like the East Nash?

They wish.

I mean, it's cheaper, sure, but the "vintage" housing stock is newer (1950s/1960s) than East Nash, so not AS desirable, and there aren't as many authentic, cool venues there.

But it's the natural progression that happens when a cool area gets SO cool that the faux-bohemians can't afford it. They move to another area and start calling it cool.

Well, they do have the grand ole opry and the earnest tubb record shop studio. I've heard it referred to as 'hip donelson' as well and its just across the river from east nash.

Just my two cents.

... which started as tourist attractions, not as local neighborhood hangouts, which is one of the benchmarks for a "cool" neighborhood.

EN was a neighborhood that became a tourist attraction. There's a difference.

There is even a Hip Lebanon facebook page I believe. I can't think of much that's hip about Lebanon. I'm not sure if there is a Hip Madison page....but...living in East Nashville and talking to friends who are being priced out and looking to buy....that's where they are going now.

Sorry to say the Ernest Tubb Record Shop in Music Valley just closed. The shop on Broadway remains open. Apart from ET, nothing was left in the old mall to go for. Even the selection of CD's or vdeo was way down from years past.

The shop closed, yes. However the music venue is still open.
