We've all agreed that the last one out of Michigan is supposed to turn out the lights. It won't effect Gov. Grandtheft though, she's used to being in the dark!

I'm happy that I stumbled upon this thread. I haven't lived in Michigan for a long time but I was born and raised there. Spent 1987-2007 living in WI too.

I accepted a job that will be based out of Nashville this week. My husband and I will be a commuter couple for I hope not too long...then he will join me.

I've been scouring this website trying to get info on communities. It's nice to hear about the New Neighbors group.

That is funny, because that is what a Talk Radio show in NJ always says about NJ, especially because the polititicians are so corrupt.

Why would a manufacturer want to expand or relocate there when they can come to the business friendly South?
I grew up in the Detroit area in the 1970's and it seemed like every time we turned on the news, someone was striking....primarily UAW individuals and the members from the teacher's union. Nowadays, the auto industries can't even pay their engineers competitive wages because they promised the world to UAW factory workers. I'm sure at some point in history, labor laws and unions were necessary but they gained way too much power and upset the whole economy.

Default Checked out local alumni groups?

I will probably be exiled from my Penn State alumni group if anyone sees me posting a reply to a Michiganer! LOL, just kidding

When I moved here there was no PSU alumni group but now we've got a very active group! Even if you're not an alum of UM, MSU, etc. you should still check out local alum groups to meet people. And as the other posters mentioned, Preds games (especially Red Wings games) are crawling with Pred Wing fans!!!

LOL I know how you feel PSU...when we moved to Memphis and couldn't find any friends I actually sought out a Purdue group (I'd like to say I regained my senses but it's not true...they never responded to us...sniff sniff). Anyway....I'm from Michigan originally and my husband is from (gasp!) Ohio...we're used to treading lightly around opposing fans!

Thank you for the tip about hockey games! It sounds like we'll have better luck with a social life in Nashville than we have had in Memphis.

Any card players out there? How about Euchre??
