Somewhat of a rebuttal from The Nashville Scene .
"However, other things about their narrative chafe a little, and for more serious reasons.
They swat playfully at a slew of easy targets, like Green Hills' fancy shops and the Gulch's expensive high-rise condos. But then East Nashville is "a place where the chicken's super hot / Grab a drink, read a book / You can walk home, but don't get shot." And "Nolensville Pike is just a really long road / In fact, you'll find more auto shops than you find homes."
I'm well aware that it's all in fun, but those oversimplifications gloss over significant problems that face real humans who live here, too — in areas where concerns run high over
housing costs ,
overcrowded schools and much more.
While it would be easy and kinda fun to say "look at these gormless twits," it's clear that they have some skill at reaching people — 150,000 YouTube plays isn't viral, but most everyone I've run into this week has had something to say about it. Rather than call for the pitchforks, I'm looking forward to them making a substantial contribution in the future."
